WHAT AND SAFE SPORT
USA Swimming is dedicated to creating a fun, healthy, and safe environment for everyone involved in the sport. Since 2010, they have developed a comprehensive Safe Sport program to prevent and address abuse and misconduct. This program educates members, establishes clear policies, and supports local swim committees and clubs in promoting positive, safe spaces for all swimmers and families.
At WHAT, we share this commitment. To stay in compliance with USA Swimming’s Safe Sport rules, all swimmers and their families are required to read and acknowledge the following:
ATHLETE PROTECTION TRAINING
Athlete Protection Training is provided by the U.S. Center for SafeSport and is available through the USA Swimming LEARN site. This required course must be completed and renewed every year.
All adult members of USA Swimming—including adult athletes and meet marshals—must successfully complete Athlete Protection Training as part of USA Swimming’s safety standards.
Important: All swimmers are required to complete Athlete Protection Training before their 18th birthday to maintain their USA Swimming membership.
Be the Best Swim Parent!
A Few Things to Help You Navigate Life as a WHAT Swim Parent...
- Financial Aid - The Woodland Hills Aquatic Team (WHAT) Board of Directors strongly believes that community members should have the opportunity to participate in a competitive swim team regardless of financial status. We offer financial assistance in the form of fee reductions for individuals and families who are financially unable to pay the established program fee. All applicants must be a current student in good standing residing within Allegheny County. Interested parties should contact whatmembership@yahoo.com for a confidential review of the program qualifications.
- Meet Eating Guidelines - Nutrition matters, both in and out of the water. Not sure what to feed your young athlete? Check out our Meet Eating Guidelines courtesy of a former swim parent and registered dietician.
- USA Swimming Resources - Visit the USA Swimming website for additional valuable information about how to be the best swim parent you can be.
- Meet Entry Process - How to commit or decline your swimmer can be confusing. We include these instructions in every meet announcement email to help you remember the process. Meet fees will be charged to your account as they are incurred.
- Equipment Needs - Swim cap pricing depends on date and availability of personalized caps. Any additional equipment can be borrowed if available and eventually purchased on your own.
- Volunteer Requirements - Each family is required to volunteer for the club. Please see our Volunteer Guidelines to understand your commitments.
