About the Woodland Hills Aquatic Team

Start Your WHAT Journey!
Woodland Hills Aquatic Team (WHAT)is based in Pittsburgh’s eastern suburbs. WHAT is sanctioned by USA Swimming and proudly represents Allegheny Mountain Swimming. We welcome swimmers of all ages and skill levels—from those just starting out, to seasoned competitors and collegiate athletes home on break. Our program combines expert coaching, a supportive team culture, and a focus on helping every swimmer reach their full potential.
Our Purpose
Woodland Hills Aquatic Team is dedicated to providing excellence in coaching, training, and team unity, creating an environment where every swimmer is inspired to reach their full potential and compete at their highest level. We achieve success by combining a well-structured program with professional, experienced coaches and the support of committed parent volunteers—united by our shared values and goals.
Flexibility for Every Athlete
WHAT offers flexible programming to support athletes who focus solely on swimming as well as those balancing multiple sports. We believe student-athletes should have the opportunity to participate, grow, and succeed in all their endeavors—both in and out of the pool.

Athletes can swim 50 yards of Freestyle, Backstroke, Butterfly, and Breaststroke continuously without assistance, complete a standing dive, and perform flip turns. Practices emphasize improving technique, increasing endurance, and preparing for consistent competition participation.
Gold Group
The Gold Group is for experienced swimmers aiming to take their training and racing to the next level. Athletes can swim 100 yards of all four competitive strokes continuously without assistance and perform proficient flip turns and competitive starts. Practices focus on advanced technique, race strategy, endurance building, and achieving time standards for higher-level meets.
Senior Group
Designed for high school athletes committed to competitive swimming, the Senior Group builds on a foundation of strong skills—100 yards of each stroke, flip turns, and competitive starts—with an emphasis on maximizing performance. Training includes advanced conditioning, stroke refinement, and preparation for championship-level meets and collegiate swimming opportunities.

WHAT Parent and Family Volunteer FAQS:
Why are parent and family volunteers important?
Parent and family volunteers are essential to WHAT’s success. Without them, the club would need to significantly raise dues to cover operating costs.
What is the volunteer requirement?
Each family is required to:
- Work a minimum of three sessions at our hosted swim meet(s), AND
- Provide either two food or concession items per home meet OR a $50 concession donation.
What happens if I don’t meet the requirements?
If these requirements are not met by the end of the season, a
$300 Volunteer Fee AND
$50 Concession Fee will be charged to your account on file.
Why do we have this policy?
This approach ensures we have the volunteer and donation support needed to run our meets and team events without increasing membership dues.
