WHAT-Mckeesport Group Descriptions
Bronze Group
Our beginner-level competitive group, designed for swimmers who can confidently swim 25 yards of Freestyle and 25 yards of Backstroke without assistance. Swimmers in this group have basic familiarity with Butterfly, Breaststroke, and diving. Practices focus on building strong stroke fundamentals, developing water confidence, and fostering a love for the sport.
Silver Group
The Silver Group is for developing swimmers ready to refine all four competitive strokes. Athletes can swim 50 yards of Freestyle, Backstroke, Butterfly, and Breaststroke continuously without assistance, complete a standing dive, and perform flip turns. Practices emphasize improving technique, increasing endurance, and preparing for consistent competition participation.
Gold Group
The Gold Group is for experienced swimmers aiming to take their training and racing to the next level. Athletes can swim 100 yards of all four competitive strokes continuously without assistance and perform proficient flip turns and competitive starts. Practices focus on advanced technique, race strategy, endurance building, and achieving time standards for higher-level meets.
Senior Group
Designed for high school athletes committed to competitive swimming, the Senior Group builds on a foundation of strong skills—100 yards of each stroke, flip turns, and competitive starts—with an emphasis on maximizing performance. Training includes advanced conditioning, stroke refinement, and preparation for championship-level meets and collegiate swimming opportunities.
Evaluation for New Members
All new swimmers will need an evaluation before registering. To schedule yours, contact Coach Ari, our Competitive Swim Admin, at WHAT.competitiveswim@gmail.com. After the evaluation, our coaching staff will recommend the group placement that best fits the swimmer’s skills, and you can then register for that group through Captyn.
